What if...

What would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone? What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets? What if we flipped through it several times a day? What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it? What if we used it to receive messages from the text? What if we treated it like we couldn’t live without it? What if we used it when we travelled? Unlike our cell phone, we don’t have to worry about our Bible getting out of range. No dropped calls! What we need is right there where we need it.

It took me a few days to respond to this post as I tried to wriggle my way around the naked truth that was staring me in the face.
Earlier this year, a news account of an Iraqi woman who had her nose cut off by her husband shocked me not as much for the brazen brutality as for the callous indifference of suffering imposed by the perpetrator.
With the normalization of sex, violence and profanity in our society today, my apathy could lead to similar scenes in our world sooner than we expect.
Why do I look for others to "handle" this possible trainwreck. The Government can't do it, they have their own battles...fighting Nativity scenes and happy meals!
It took many years, much effort and lots of people to provide me with that God inspired moral compass bequeathed to humankind solely for their benefit. How eye popping it is to have such a bestowment- the Holy Bible- and then your blog comes along and demonstrates my negligence.
My, what a two edged sword God's gift of free choice is...thank you for illuminating my nonchalance and for helping me to choose a more enthusiastic commitment to understanding God's will for me.
